Robert Sarver announces plans to sell Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury after receiving one-year suspension and $10 million fine

by

Last week, the NBA announced that Robert Sarver, the owner of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, would be suspended from both leagues for a year and fined $10 million after an investigation determined he used racial slurs, as well as a ” unfair conduct towards employees”, and more. . Now it appears that Sarver has decided to sell both basketball teams.

ESPN reports that Sarver released a statement on Wednesday in which he announced that he had begun the process of selling the Suns and Mercury franchises.

In his statement, Sarver said:

“As a man of faith, I believe in the atonement and the path of forgiveness. I expected the commissioner’s one-year suspension to give me time to focus, make amends, and withdraw my personal controversy from the teams that I and so many fans love. But in our current unforgiving climate, it has become painfully clear that this is no longer possible – that whatever good I have done, or that I still could do, is offset by the things I have said in the past. For these reasons, I am beginning the process of finding buyers for the Suns and Mercury. Words that I deeply regret now overshadow nearly two decades of creating organizations that have brought people together – and strengthened the Phoenix area – through the unifying power of men’s and women’s professional basketball.

As previously reported, an investigation into Sarver was launched after ESPN published an article about the racial allegations and misogyny he faced.

In the end, it was concluded that Sarver “engaged in instances of unfair conduct towards female employees, made numerous sex-related comments in the workplace, made inappropriate comments about physical appearance employees and other women and on several occasions engaged in inappropriate physical conduct towards male employees.

The news of his suspension caused many people to react, including LeBron James who said:

Even City Girls’ JT commented on the matter while making a quick appearance on local news in Arizona.

On Wednesday, LeBron James reacted to the news that Sarver had sold the teams and said:
