Human waste could help fight infectious disease outbreaks



Wastewater monitoring uses local sewage systems to measure population health and can be particularly useful in detecting infectious diseases that may be asymptomatic. The practice is currently being used to fight COVID-19 and could be a useful tool in the fight against monkeypox and the resurgence of poliomyelitis.
