Guide to Norwegian Cruise Line’s Latitudes Rewards Loyalty Program: Everything You Need to Know

by

Show loyalty to Norwegian cruise line can bring you great rewards.

The lines recently renovated The frequent cruiser program, Latitudes Rewards, offers members attractive benefits such as discounts on normally pricey beverage packages, shore excursions and spa treatments after just a few sailings. And that’s just a glimpse of what awaits loyal cruisers who reach the top tiers of the program.

At the program’s highest level, the Ambassador level, the program provides one of the most spectacular rewards in the world of the cruise loyalty program: a free cruise for two.

Other benefits the company hands out to higher-tier members include discounts of up to 25% on internet packages, free wine tastings and free dinners at upscale restaurants on Norwegian ships.

Ways to earn points

Earning points in the Latitudes Rewards program is relatively simple. You will have:

  • 1 point for each night spent on a boat.
  • 1 additional point per night when staying in a Concierge level cabin, full price suite (no mini suites or club suites with balconies) or The Haven rooms.
  • 1 additional point per night on a cruise booked through a Latitudes Rewards Insider Offer. These are special offers for Latitudes Rewards members.

Note that the additional point per night for suites applies only to stays in suites booked during the initial reservation. It does not apply to stays in suites resulting from an upgrade.

Program Levels and Benefits

The Latitudes Rewards program has seven levels:

  • Bronze (1 to 19 dots).
  • Silver (20 to 44 points).
  • Gold (45 to 74 points).
  • Platinum (75 to 149 points).
  • Sapphire (150 to 349 points).
  • diamond (350 to 699 points).
  • Ambassador (700 points or more).

The Latitudes Rewards program is one of cruise lines’ most robust loyalty programs, with solid benefits available to nearly all members.

After just one cruise, as a newly created Bronze member, you’ll get 30% off an unlimited open bar package – a perk that could save you a lot of money on the cruise if you’re a heavy drinker. This perk was just added in September 2022, much to the delight of Norwegian fans.

As a Bronze level member, you will also receive a 10% discount at the onboard duty-free shops, early access to information on new products and exclusive offers, a signature pin and a few other little things.

Upgrading to the Silver level of the Latitudes Rewards Loyalty Program will bring all of the above benefits, plus:

  • An invitation to a free cocktail on board.
  • A 10% discount on land excursions.
  • A 20% discount on photos.
  • A 15% discount on spa treatments performed while the ship is in port.
  • An additional 15% discount at onboard duty-free shops.
  • A 40% higher discount on an unlimited open bar package.

The Gold level increases photo and spa treatment discounts to 25% and 20%, respectively, and also brings:

  • A free Flow Water card.
  • A 50% discount on a laundry bag.
  • Priority tender tickets (for relevant ports).
  • Priority disembarkation (US citizens only).

As noted above, it will only take you one cruise to reach the initial Bronze level. Reaching the Silver tier would require three seven-night cruises, assuming you’re staying in standard staterooms. If you book suites or only book Latitudes Rewards Insider Offers, you’ll reach Silver much faster.

Reaching Gold can be done in as little as three seven-night cruises if you book a suite and also book only Latitudes Rewards insider offers. If you’re booking standard cabins and not using Latitudes Rewards insider offers, you’ll need five seven-night cruises.

The elite level that makes the difference

In our opinion, the Platinum level is where being a loyal Norwegian customer starts to pay off.

Once you hit Platinum, you’ll get all of the above plus a 15% discount on internet packages, which is a big plus. Internet packages on Norwegian can be pricey.

Another great perk at Platinum level is access to two free dinners at some of Norway’s finest ship restaurants for every voyage of five nights or more.

Norwegian recently increased the value of this benefit by offering free dinners at more onboard restaurants. Previously, one of the free dinners, which included a free bottle of wine, could only be booked at Cagney steakhouses and Le Bistro French restaurants on Norwegian ships. Now passengers can book it at any restaurant on board that offers a complimentary wine list. You can also book the second free dinner at a wider range of restaurants.

Platinum members also benefit from:

  • Priority check-in and boarding.
  • Access to a concierge to help you book meals, entertainment and shore excursions.
  • Chocolate covered strawberries delivered to their room.
  • A tasting of Wines of the World.
  • A behind-the-scenes tour of the ship (this benefit has been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
  • A higher discount of 30% on photos.
  • An additional 25% discount on spa treatments.
  • A dedicated service desk before the cruise.

Plus, Platinum members can pre-book onboard entertainment, dining and activities up to 125 days before departure.

It may take up to 11 seven-night cruises to achieve Platinum status if you stay in standard cabins. However, it can also be done in just four cruises if you stay in upper-tier cabins and book using Latitudes Rewards Insider offers.

Best Elite Perks

Once you reach the Sapphire Tier, you’ll receive all of the above benefits, plus dinner with Ship’s Officers (this benefit is temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and priority seating for restaurants and entertainment (subject to availability). The latter really is a wonderful perk, as it means you won’t be stuck eating too early or too late on evenings when the onboard restaurants are busy (which is pretty much every night). It also means you can enter theaters for onboard shows knowing a decent seat is waiting for you.

Added in early 2022, the Diamond tier brings two other exciting benefits, both new to the program: access to a free Sail & Sustain Mixology experience and a one-time free cabin upgrade.

But the ultimate benefit for Latitudes Rewards members is achieving the next level of Ambassador. You’ll get a one-time complimentary seven-night cruise in a balcony cabin. You can choose any destination, but you cannot select holiday navigation (Christmas and New Year).

The free cruise is for two people. You can bring a third and fourth guest, but you will pay their rates. You will also pay all taxes, fees and service charges (including gratuities). You have one year to redeem your free cruise after becoming an elite ambassador.

Sapphire, Diamond and Ambassador level members also receive greater discounts on shore excursions. For Sapphire and Diamond members, the shore excursion discount is 15%. It increases to 20% for ambassador level members.

Sapphire, Diamond, and Ambassador level members also get deeper discounts on internet packages. For Sapphire members, the discount on Internet service is 20%. It goes up to 25% for Diamond and Ambassador level members.

The Ambassador level, in particular, is not easy to achieve as it requires 700 points. This means you may need to take up to 100 seven-night cruises to qualify. If you stay in premium cabins and book plenty of Latitudes Rewards insider offers, you could reach Ambassadors level much faster, in just 34 seven-night sailings.

Do NCL Latitudes Rewards points expire?

No, Norwegian Cruise Line Latitudes Rewards points never expire.

As is often the case with cruise ship loyalty programs, Norwegian customers don’t have to requalify for status every year. Latitudes Rewards members retain their points at the end of each year and continue to earn points indefinitely. This means that someone who achieves Ambassador status will remain at that higher level forever (or until Norwegian changes the program).

Such “permanent status” is one of the big draws of cruise line frequent cruiser programs. Most airline loyalty programs, on the other hand, require loyalty members to requalify for status each year.

At the end of the line

Norwegian has one of the most enticing frequent cruiser programs. Even after just a few cruises, loyal fans will find they’re entitled to a nice array of valuable perks, from discounts on various types of onboard expenses to exclusive cocktails. We’re a big fan of the free dinners at paid onboard restaurants that have Platinum status.
