Electric color schemes and bold sex appeal are part of what makes up The Quan Smiththe brand’s DNA, whether it’s summer, autumn, winter or spring! You can always expect the unexpected when it comes to this star designer’s fashion week collections, and this season the likes of La La Anthony, Aoki Lee Simmons, Shantel Jackson, Roz model and our EIC Claire Sulmers sit in those airside seats to see LaQuan Smith’s creations do what they do best – kill! Here are four reasons why we’re still obsessed with the LaQuan Smith SS23 fashion show during New York Fashion Week!
Breastplates are more and more present on the catwalks! You can even say that the cuirass/chest plate is one of this styles emerging from the 2020s. Either way, the bib isn’t always the easiest fashion statement to wear, but LaQuan has managed to make it both high-end and accessible throughout this collection, accentuating the female form in a new way, and we are delighted!
Signature LaQuan Smith is never heavy. It is light, delicate and often translucent. What we love the most is that LaQuan is always finding new ways to incorporate sheer materials, and this year it was through PVC and patterned chiffons. We call dibs on the yellow trench!
3. Some Dangerous Cuts
High cut, high cut or low cut, LaQuan is one to take risks in this department! If you’re looking for something bold yet balanced, look no further.
4. A hint of Tom Ford
Taking us back to the ’90s, Smith nodded to her mentor’s effortless elegance through tie-neck tops, shimmering sequins and silhouettes originally designed by Tom Ford.
What do you think, bombs?
